TaskStream Questions:

What is a DRF?

DRF stands for Directed Response Folio. This is the primary means for collecting artifacts in Taskstream.

How do I set up a DRF?

While setting up a DRF is relatively easy, there are important decisions that can have important ramifications. The best thing to do is contact our Taskstream representative and to guide you through the process. To do so, please call 1-800-311-5656.

What is a TS Coordinator? How do I become one?

TS Coordinator stands for Taskstream Coordinator. A TS Coordinator has access to reports and can create DRFs. To become a TS Coordinator, contact Alden Stout.

Who do I call if I am having problems with Taskstream?

Taskstream provides Morningside with with help. All you need to do is call 1-800-311-5656.

 

Programmatic Assessment Questions:

Who should receive my annual programmatic assessment report?

Please send assessment reports via a CCed email to Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Institutional Assessment (Alden Stout) and CPAC Assessment Coordinator (Jessica LaPaglia). 

Where can I review the assessment reports by other programs?

Assessment reports are available on the assessment website. To get there, go to My.Morningside.edu. Under the “Campus Offices tab” choose assessment. Then select “Academic Program Assessment” in the black menu bar.

When are my programmatic assessment reports due?

Programmatic assessment reports are due July 1st.

Where can I find my program’s assessment plan?

Where do I submit my revised program assessment plan?

Where can I review the institutional assessment reports?

Assessment reports are available in Morningside’s Assessment Almanac. Click here to read them.

When should I submit my artifacts for institutional assessment?

Artifacts need to be submitted to the institutional DRF when the designated class or experiences take place. Thus, the time to submit artifacts varies based on the program and the classes or experiences designated by the program. To see which classes or experiences have been designated, please refer to section one of your program’s assessment plan.

How do I submit my artifacts for institutional assessment?

Artifacts for institutional assessment should be submitted, by students, through the DRF created for the program. To do so, students should enroll using access code provided to the program’s institutional assessment coordinator and upload the artifact at the time of submission to the class or experience.

General Assessment Questions

What is the difference between an institutional and a programmatic outcome?  Who is responsible for assessing each?

An institutional outcome is devised for and applied to all Morningside graduates.

The undergraduate outcomes are the following:

  • Communicate effectively through speech and writing in a manner appropriate to an intended audience and context.
  • Apply quantitative reasoning to practical problem solving.
  • Use multiple disciplinary perspectives to synthesize information.
  • Apply principles of ethical reasoning to concrete situations.
  • Critically evaluate arguments, information, and decisions.

Outcomes for the Master of Arts in Teaching are:

  • Use appropriate assessment techniques to improve student learning.
  • Conduct, analyze, and synthesize research.
  • Candidates will assist students to become collaborative and active learners.
  • Use technology to support student learning.
  • Use critical thinking skills to evaluate trends and issues in education.

The institutional outcomes are assessed by the institutional summer groups on a rotating basis.

Programmatic outcomes are specific to the program/discipline though they may be similar to the institutional outcomes. Programmatic outcomes are found in section three of the programmatic assessment plan.  Each program is responsible for assessing its programmatic outcomes.

What is the difference between “assessment” and “evaluation”?

Assessment is a means of inquiry regarding how a class, program, or institution is meeting is educational goals or outcomes. It also seeks to understand the effectiveness of those methods are in enabling student learning. As an example, a project investigating how effective Morningside is at ensuring all graduates can communicate effectively.

Evaluation is how individual students do in a class or on an assignment. As an example, a student’s grade on the final exam.

What is the difference between formative and summative assessment?

Formative assessment is meant to not only assess but also help students learn. As an example, a sophomore project can help a program see where the students in the program are at the midpoint. This can be particularly beneficial when inquiring about student growth in a program. That same artifact can also be used to help individual students see where they need to improve as they progress toward the overall outcomes.

Summative assessment takes place at the end of a program or experience and shows only the proficiency or level of learning that has taken place during the program. Summative assessments provide less feedback for the students to use going forward.
